In the acute phase, or in case of a sinker, the hoof may be casted with plaster or synthetic casting material. Sole supporting materials are included within the cast. The purpose of casting is to improve the distribution of forces on the hoof and prevent further coffin bone rotation. In some cases, casting is combined with a coronary band resection.
