Hoof cartilages

  • ·5 June 2017

The hoof contains two hoof cartilages, located behind the coffin bone. The coffin bone forms the base of the front half of the hoof, the hoof cartilages give structure to the back half. Because of their resilience the hoof cartilages provide cushioning and flexibility to the foot.
Both coffin bone and hoof cartilages are covered with wall dermis and its primary and secondary dermal lamellae.
