Equine metabolic syndrome. A hormonal problem similar to type 2 diabetes in humans. It is an incurable metabolic disorder in which blood sugar levels are repeatedly elevated. Because the body does not respond well to the presence of insulin, not enough energy from sugar can be utilised.
