Adipokines

Adipokines are cell signalling proteins, secreted by adipose tissue, that are activated by receptors on the cell wall. Subsequently they take care of the communication within the cell. Some stimulate the onset of inflammation, as inflammation is necessary to ward off foreign bodies. Unfortunately these adipokines reduce insulin sensitivity as well, acting as vasoconstrictors and causing damage to blood vessels.
